My son and my daughter both have cradle cap. My son's is so bad that his hair comes right out of that area when its combed. I have tried lotions and baby oil, but its still there. Please help.

Step 1: apply baby oil to the scalp, then brush away the scale with a soft bristle brush.

Step 2: if step 1 doesn't work, you can try selenium sulfide shampoo (like selsun blue for example) 3 times a week. Avoid contact with eyes.

Step 3: if step 1 and 2 dont work, talk to the kids' doctor about medications that can be applied to the scalp (like hydrocortisone).

Good Luck!

Make sure you are truly dealing with cradle cap. My son (2 months) had it and it spread to his face. The doc said it was indeed cradle cap but because of how bad it was there was a special medicine we had to get. It was expensive but worth it. It cleared up right away and we used it on his scalp and face. For minor cradle cap, they say to not use any lotions with smellies and don't wash with baby wash- just water and usually clears up. If it doesn't, you can use the oils.

Put some baby oil on it and then brush his head with the little baby combs. It should start coming off right away.
By the way, it does work in a humid area. Where I live we tend to have 90% humidity during the month my son was born and had it.

i would suggest not to use baby oil, as i consider it artificial, so go for sweet almond oil, massage gently the cradle cap with the oil for some time, then wash using a soft baby hair brush and diluted baby shampoo. doing it for 2-3 times a week would surely help n get rid of the cap.

I used to look after a boy with cradle cap like that. put olive oil on his head everyday and brush it with a soft toothbrush to loosen it. will take a while but eventually will get rid of it. when you bath the kids dont wash their hair every time, just once or twice a week. make sure you wash the shampoo out well and rub their head well with a towel.

If you live in a dry climate, baby oil will work nicely. If however you live in an extremely humid area, any type of oil will only make matters worse. If that is the situation you can use baby powder to help get rid of it.

my son got the same thing but it was from baby shampoo. I put Vaseline on his head and then took a comb and went over his head and got all the dead skin off. and it worked better than anything in the stores. and keep lotion on his head too after you comb it. that will keep his head moist that way it comes off better and goes away faster. Good Luck!
