Yes; several Asian cultures, including mine, believe that elephants are lucky and that an elephant's trunk in paintings, figurines, tapestries, statues, etc. must be pointing upward or skyward because that brings good luck.
When the trunk is pointing upward, it means that your luck or your fortune will also go up or move upward. Correspondingly, a trunk pointing downward is bad luck because it symbolizes luck or fortune that is going down.

I thought elephants meant fertility. I had a friend who couldn't get pregnant (for years she tried) and her friend went to Africa and brought her back a small statue of a fertility elephant and she was pregnant like a few months later. Creepy huh?
Maybe it is the way the trunk is positioned. I can't remember what the statue looked like now... it's been a few to many years.
