For food you're going to have to check out the store and buy the type for your type of fish. I usually buy Tetra products so I have different food for my tropical fish, my bettas, and for my goldfish and koi. You should also give different treats, too. Like Brine Shrimp or Blood Worms. Feed your fish twice a day and remember not to give too much.
Maintenance, I'd say, if your tank is not cycled then 10-15% water changes every day. Other wise you should do 20-50% water changes once a week, and gravel vacs. once a week, too.
What do you mean by other animals? If you mean other fish, then you'd have to have about 2 gallons per inch of fish. Then you'd have to see what your current fish are compatible with. And depending on decorations and plants and the size of your tank.
And I use two sites for my fish keeping problems:
Badmans Tropical Fish

and

i just bought some fish recently too. fish dont need much care. really. i mean first of all it all depends on the type of fish you have. if you have saltwater fish then u need salted water. u can always go to the nearst petco store and find out all u need. if you have community fish (which is what i have) um... they usually dont get ver ybig about two inchest long. u can have up to 8 of them in a 10 gallons aq. the food you can give them is usually found in PETCO or petsmart. you feed your fish twice to three times a day and in a very small amount, like a pinch or so. you wait 15 mins to see if they ate everythin (if not then you might wanna use less food next time). fish hate it when humans pound on their aquarium or very high sounds (it stresses them out and it causes their death. )
cleanin for fishes is basic. remember you have to have a filter in ur aquarium and a temperature meter to heat up ur water. theres a special vaccum u should get to suck out all of their dirt and you only have to do this about once a month. PS agressive fish need more cleanin then just once a month.

my pond goldfish had babies, and i bought a tank and put then in when they were just a few months old. i first fed them grounded fish flakes, but then, once they grew a little, i did not grind them up. i give my tank a good clean every week, use a tooth brush to get rid of alge, it works really well. clean the sides, filter and stir up the rocks to get little piesec into the filter, your tank will most likely be a little cloudy, but it will go away if you have a filter. i wish i knew what type of fish you have then i could give you more details. and no, buying fish was a great choise, other animals are alot more work
well good luck!

Give them a sprinkle of food once a day. Clean the aquarium once a week or as needed, depending on how many fish you have. Do not over feed them, as fish are not brain surgeons and they will eat themselves until they eat too much and may get ill or even die.

First of all you need to tell us what kind of fish (are they freshwater or saltwater?). I have a 50-gallon freshwater tank; I feed 2x daily with small amounts each time and it works great. No problems for years. Do a search on aquarium care. Also, there are tons of books on beginning aquarium hobbyists. Check the library.

Depends on the fish. You should ask the pet store. Go online and look up your specific breed of fish and care for them accordingly. Fish need weekly cleaning of their tanks/bowls, to be fed daily (some fish don't)....they don't live long...
