Only if the politicians are clear about where they stand on various topics. For example, if you know a candidate likes the death penalty and he/she actually stands by that after they're elected, then you're responsible. I find I vote for someone who I think represents my values, then when they get in power, they change their tune. I don't believe I should be held accountable for the politician's change of heart.

No way! Just because a person votes doesn't mean that the person voted into office is going to make good decisions. Hopefully, that politician will, but more often than not, they don't.

Just because the USA is a democracy doesn't mean that I am responsible for what Bush does. If it were up to me, this whole Iraq thing would have been over a long time ago.

There's only so much a person can do, ultimately, it's in the hands of the politicians.

In the United States, yes. We, the people, elect fellow citizens to represent up and to do our public business. It is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The failure of this republic, or any other republic is that too few people have any idea of their personal responsibility to elect honest representatives. It is not often realized that when one demands favors and services from the government, they, in effect, are demanding those favors and services from their neighbors.

In a democracy yes, our leaders and our government are a direct reflection of the people.(in theory) In a dictatorship no, one person is so feared, not respected, that the people do whatever is asked. If you really think into it, socialism in it's purest form is the perfect way. But for the most part, us as humans cannot conform with or deal with equality.

Unfortunately, the US is a republic, not a true democracy. The founding fathers knew they didn't get it completely right--"in to form a MORE perfect union." Our true responsibility is to keep working to make it better.
