I prefer MP3 players and digital cameras with rechargable batteries versus AAA batteries. It is better for the environment and may cost less money in the long run.
With my players, I get about 8-12 hours of play time on a single charge.
I'm always around computers. And there are AC adapters available with USB connectors and car 12VDC adapters available for USB connectors. If you can carry around spare batteries, you can carry around an adapter. If you have a layover at an airport, you can plug in and charge up.
The other possibility is to get a player with a user replaceable battery and get a spare battery. For example, the Creative Zen Micro and MicroPhoto have additional rechargeable batteries available for $35-$40.
Plus, maybe if the battery runs out, it's a sign to get out from your own little music world and join the human race, interact with people and your environment. It's not good to be always wired in and continuously connected. Enjoy the silence.

An mp3 player with a built in battery by USB is better than one that needs AAA batteries beause, its way cheaper than having to buy batteries and can be easier to recharge instead of having to swap out batteries.
