light will always be spelled light, marketing jargon invades our everyday life and sometimes writing the word in a different way for its use in some ad, makes that word becomes popular, but that does not mean it´s spelled right. If people adopt a way of writing a certain word because everyone else is doing it, also does not mean it´s spelled right. Check the Webster´s Dictionary website, every ten years or so they check to see which new words get added and which words are taken out. If you see lite there, it means the word is used extensively in newspapers, books and magazines, and therefore its use is accepted. But, It still does not substitute the word light.

A very good question, however, you shouldn't be so concerned with how many letters you use.

It's most important to use a well-balanced selection of letters. Avoid unhealthy trans-letters in favor of more wholesome alternatives.

Although there is strong support for organic letters, commercially available letters, when properly washed and prepared are equally as healthy.

It's also important to clean your keyboard after typing. Use a soft bristled brush to avoid damage to the areas surrounding the keys and be sure to clean between the keys as well.

If you don't have time, or may not conveniently clean your keyboard after use, simply rinse it off with water.

All in all, this society is becoming more and more obsessed with emails that purport to contain "Fewer Letters" or they remove content for no other reason than to tag the communication "New and Improved."

Remember, a well-rounded balance of letters is the surest way to healthy communication.

Nah, it's a retard shade of the word "light"-- only retards use it. Retards too lazy to spell with the gh instead of the e, retards who think "downspelling" words is cute, and somehow an extension of thier individuality, retards who see "lite" foods in the stores and buy em up because they're too stupid and lazy to eat right naturally and balance their diets with exercise.

You know, lite.

Cute question. Good use of play on words. It isn't technically a word, but if enough people begin using it, it will become a word. The wordsmiths probably have been debating this question for months if not years. We should receive the answer at any time.

It's just southern Appalachian and is prononunced "lite" not "light".

My old high school football coach, who was from Harlan, KY, used to come in on game nite and say. "All rite, guys, we are gonna be rite, t'nite!". I am pretty sure he had seen the "lite".

Laura, I know people from Knoxville talk like this, not sure about Chattanooga, though.

An excellent question.

"Lite" has a different connotation to "light" and therefore has its role in the language.

It suggests a certain lack of seriousness and lack of real substance, and an easy way out.
