The irrationality of the belief in god has a scientific basis. It goes back to our cave man days when man was very insecure living in a hostile environment. The cerebral cortex of our brain (the complex thinking apparatus) is a relatively recent addition.
The more primitive underlying limbic system, the seat of our ancient emotions or innate temperaments, is in all of us. Humans use both systems. In times of trouble, people still pray for intervention by the god(s). Prayers are requests by persons to have the laws of the universe repealed in their favor.
People who are rational, relying on their cerebral cortex, look at all the absurdities in religion. Christian dogma expects people to believe the fairy tale of Noah's ark, although it is patently impossible to squeeze even samples of billions of the world's animals into one small ark. Rational persons consider such stories ludicrous.
The bible account of the creation of man and the universe is in such contradiction to irrefutable facts that a rational person cannot help but laugh about such fantasies.
Have you heard the saying "there's no atheists in foxholes?" Its because in times of danger, humans revert to the primitive part of their brain for security. We needed religion to survive in a hostile universe back in the cave man days.

The Vedic science gives some pointers about the existence of God and nature. God is more than the great "I AM", He has more personality than that. And since God has personality what else could be the nature of His personality than to be all-perfect. God is all cognizant because although He is very far away we are actually a part of His body. It is too difficult for us to understand.
Logic suggests that there is an origin to all things. Identity and personality came from this same Supreme Origin. The animals have a sense of identity also. Life comes into being in this material world and after some time merges again into the material pool. But, the life comes into being due to the presence of an eternal force known as the soul.

God is eternal, without beginning, without end. Virtually all cultures have had some sort of spiritual belief, sometimes elaborate as with Greeks, Egyptians, Hindus; sometimes simple as with animists. Other great religions are monotheistic: Jews, Christians, Muslims, with essentially a single all-powerful entity in charge.
"If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him."
Voltaire
From the grammar, and yes it is a translation from French, it appears that even Voltaire, a "free-thinker" acknowledges God as well

God invented God. God chooses to have lots of people around, why only God knows. Other animals do get support from aspects of God that are useful to them. People do feel/hear God. You probably do too, or you wouldn't have any interest in asking, huh?
Fear psychosis is what you get when you deny your own spiritual inner life it's due reality. You get to have that choice, that is the way God made human life. Free will, you know...

Man invented God in his attempt to come to terms with a world over which he had no control and to comfort him in the thought that someone, somewhere was in charge. There are relatively few people in this world who want to be "in charge" completely. To have no one to answer to, no one to look to when the sh!t hits the fan, to have no one to blame. And so man created God. A all powerful being who was in charge of everything and infinitely more powerful than any mere human.
Animals don't give a rats a$$ about anything but pet me and feed me, so they don't need a "God". All they need is a dry place to sleep and something in their stomach and they're all set.

My definition to "God" (or abc, xyz, etc) is not to the "image" but the "purpose". One should fear to someone (at least to the God). Remember...Man should have law, order, police, religious guide, etc. Without than, man would be the worst animal/devil! From this point of view, everyone should accept this reality. I totally against if you say man should "fear" to God, therefore imagine that "someone" is watching him all the times. If u're a rightious & truthful person, you should only love "HIM", and SERVE HIS PURPOSE. That is the real reason for your existence!

God is LOVE, TRUTH, JOY, LIFE, LOGIC......
God is HOW you are able to BE you.
God is HOW you are able to recognize your reflection, even though you've never been able to SEE your own face.
God is HOW you are able to recognize yourself in any photo, even if you have forgotten everyone else in the photo that you DID see.
God IS REAL.
Just because you don't remember anything else yet, doesn't mean this is all there is......
God knows you better than you know yourself.
Your body is WHAT you are IN, not WHO you are......
Blessings to you.
