Demographic variables are: age, gender, sexual orientation, family size, family life cycle, income, occupation, education, socioeconomic status, religion, nationality/race.

The Psychographic variables are: personality, life style, value, and attitude.

Blending this with the product of beer we can see that beer consumers hit most of these variables. Based on age we come up with three distinct groups: 21-26 Age group who primarily consumes the more economical beer. This group has the highest demand for the cheep stuff like “Keystone Light” or other economical beers where they can serve large numbers of fellow people. Additionally, many sports fans also consume this economical beer, and dare I say, “Red-Necks”.

The second group in the age category is the 26-50 year olds… this group also has higher education, income, and more attitude. They have graduated from the cheep stuff and prefer the stuff like “European” … “Home-Brewed” … “Dark and Flavorful” … “Specialty” beers. This is a big market also, and competition is fierce since we’re dealing with people who have money and attitude!!!

Lastly, we have the 50-End of lifers. Most people don’t think of the elderly as drinkers … but whoa-Nelly do they chug it down. However, beer contains “Gas” and the elderly typically avoid “Gassy” products. They seem to enjoy the beer with more alcohol and less carbon; or they go straight for the bourbon!!!
