might need a new control module-ebay! has the car been bumped-even if you change the airbag the light will stay on until you replace/clear the code on the control module

shouldn't fail it should only be an advisory

As a auto engineer i would strongly advise you not to mess about with any of the components of an airbag! the airbag contains a small explosive charge which deploys the airbag and this can be very dangerous ! the warning light has detected a fault on the system and it could be a number of possibilities, your best course of action is to take the vehicle to the local dealer if there is no local dealer then to a reputable garage in the are which will have the equipment to hook up to the system on board the car, repairs to airbags and systems are not reccomended at all from a safety point and should only be undertaken by qualified technicians

light being on indicates that a self test performed at the time you turn the key has detected a failed or about to fail component. take it to the dealer and have it repaired. leaving it that way could result in failure to deploy in a crash or worse yet it might deploy on its own without a crash while you are driving.

If the light stays on but the bag isn't deploied then that means that the sencsor is bad. You will need to replace the sencor.
