By asking this question I hope to inspire others to realize every little bit each one of us can do will help make a difference in the world. Think about it ----- doing just a little bit vs. doing absolutley nothing.

I of course mean only those who could afford to give the dollar - let's say for example only people who fall under middle class and above. I mean if this was just part of a regular paycheck deduction most people wouldn't even miss it. I have on hour a month of my pay automatically deducted and donated to the United Way and it is a great way for me to give because I don't have to do anything but sign a paper once a year of how much I want to donate and have deducted from my paycheck. But I do know I am making a difference and that matters. This is also just an example of one way we could help. Volunteering just 1 hour of time is another great way to help. That is the purpose of this question....to get everyone thinking of what you think is the best way to help and then do something. By the way I am only barely middle class right now and I have been working poor most of my life when I was younger so I know what it is like to struggle but still always know there are others worse off

Money is great but your time is more valuable amd appreciated. The question I would pose is what if everyone took one hour per week to do something for those in need?
VOLUNTEERS MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR EVERYONE!!

On the other hand, what if I just KEPT a dollar a week every week of the year? By the end of the year, I'd have $52 dollars to spend however I want. I like that better.
Or how about if everyone in the world gave ME just $1 a week every week of the year? I could REALLY buy some cool stuff then!

I think this is a great idea. Every penny makes a difference. Also, I think it would be beneficial to donate some of our old clothes and old toys to places like Goodwill or Salvation Army. For me, whenever I have any extra cash around, I give it into different charities.

Each journey starts with one small step. Your idea is a wonderful one, but self preservation is first and foremost in many people's eyes, and they tend to block out those who are less fortunate.
Personally, I have 3 charities that I donate to regularly. It makes me feel good to think I can help others, even if only in a small way.

Most people in the world don't make $1.00 a week (really, look it up). and those who do make that, or a little more can't afford to part with a dollar. I recomend that you do what I do and try to give enough that your contribution covers those who don't donate. And see to it that it goes to those who can't donate.

I always wonder what really happens to all the money that gets donated to charities. How much of it gets contributed to its intended cause and how much goes into the pockets of the people collecting it?
Kind of like tax dollars, isn't it?

It would be vastly better than giving it to the federal government! Volunteering of time would be a good thing too. Where and when possible.

"Virtually all preachers want members to tithe 10% of their income to that church" What a blanket generalization! Not all churches expect this. My church says, give what you can when you can...and they never ask for proof of income.... Even in countries where they have church taxes (like Sweden) the tithe is only about 1%.

I would finally have enough money to run for president!
