My children's father has bipolar disorder for which he fails to maintain treatment. When he is manic he avoids his obligations and is aggressive. I can't see myself staying healthy, nor my children if we continue to be a part of this cycle.

It is important that you and your children be protected from the cycle with aggression. His parental rights need to be modified to provide that protection. Terminating parental rights may be difficult to obtain.

A component of protecting yourself and your children is getting advice on how to deal with this crisis in your family. Even though you do not have as debilitating of a diagnosis as your children's father, this situation is difficult to deal with. You could benefit from counseling to better deal with and help your children deal with the situation.

usually it means that the father can no longer have contact with the children.its a rough situation n the kids usually r the ones that suffer the most.have u tried having the court order him into treatment and having court ordered supervised visits.at least then he could be ordered 2 seek help and having a supervised visit means they watch him and his interactions with the children.
