Actually the Yankees have brought up quite a few first class pitchers over the last 20 years. Most of them pitch/ed for other teams. Drabek for example came up with the Yanks but won 20 games for the Pirates instead.
Currently Brandon Claussen and Eric Milton are examples of recent Yankee prospects showing signs of developing into good solid pitchers.
Andy Pettite and Mariano Rivera are two great pitchers the Yanks brought up from the farm system.
The Yankees while Stienbrenner was suspended built up an impressive farm system in an amazingly short time. Besides Pettite and Rivera the Yanks brought up Jeter, Bernie Williams, Posada, Soriano, Cano, Lowell are some examples. Unfortunately the Yankees keep dumping prospects for washed up overpriced vets. When the Yankees were mostly home grown they were a dynasty. When they went back to trying to buy the WS they suddenly became the most expensive team that could not win a WS again. So many talented Yankee prospects are lost when they do this as well.
So opportunity is the hardest part for up and coming Yankee pitchers. The Yanks have too little patience with them. They have to produce right out the door but very few great pitchers become effective without a couple years of mediocrity or outright stinking it up in the majors.

Because the Yankees do not have a farm system. They trade off all there young talent to obtain free agents. George Steinbrener is an idiot. He does not know how to build a long lasting fruitful farm system. He spends for the present without any regard for the future. He has put the team in a position that they will have to spend on free agents every year.

Why do that, when they can use the rest of the major leagues for their farm system? Let the guy get good somewhere else, wait until he's a free agent, then throw money around like it's water to get him.
No good player is going to stay in Milwaukee or Kansas City or Florida when the Yankees and their butt buddies, the Red Sux, are going to outspend everyone else to be the giver and not the receiver in their homosexual relationship.

Mainly because they are not used to doing that. They just call George and he puts up the bucks to buy what they need. Too bad it doesn't work, though. After buying Rodriguez, Damon, and Randy Johnson, the Yankees still haven't won a world series in quite some time. Maybe, just maybe, they should save George's money and rely on their farm system. Could work!!
I hope you agree.

I'm sure alot of people have said it it but good pitching is hard to find plus they Yankees usuallly trade it away for a old vet. Did u know at one point they had both Mark Prior and Eric Miltion what did they do with em? Traded them, maybe if Prior had picthed for the Yanks not the Cubs he wouldn't have elbow problems.

Since they always have one of the best records in baseball they always get one of the last picks in the draft so usually don't get anyone who develops into something great. Also their focus isn't developing their farm system because they don't need to.All they have to do is wait for someone else to develop players and then the Yankees will eventually get them.

Pitching is hard to develop. So many times it takes a year or two to see if someone will pan out. You don't usally get that time in NY. However look at Wang, he turned out.

Because they live in the here and now. They have given away all their young pitchers for the mid season guys they get to make a push for a title. They buy world championships, not earn them, remember.
