Stephen Walt Wrote:"Anyone who criticises Israel's actions or argues that pro-Israel groups have significant influence over US Middle East policy," the authors have written, "...stands a good chance of being labelled an anti-Semite. Indeed, anyone who merely claims that there is an Israeli lobby runs the risk of being charged with anti-Semitism ...."
This is strong stuff in a country where - to quote the late Edward Said - the "last taboo" (now that anyone can talk about blacks, gays and lesbians) is any serious discussion of America's relationship with Israel.

I think it is very foolish to blindly support Israel. The Arab/Muslim world's voice is ignored, and while this is being done, we will NEVER have world peace. (Here it comes: I am going to be branded a nazi anti-semite.... again, which I am NOT) I am saying: Let's LISTEN to what they have to say. I am not proposing the destruction of Israel, but sadly, Israel is regarded as a bastion of western democracy by some in the west, but as a cancer by most in the Arab/Muslim world, and the ONLY solution is to sit down and LISTEN to EVERYBODY'S view.
I have had people writing to me pointing out that Egypt is a shining example of the acceptance of Israel in the Middle East;
what a misconception, while they are receiving billions of dollars from the US, they are only paying lipservice to this socalled acceptance. The people in the Middle East allege that the state of Israel was IMPOSED on them, (which is partly true) and this will remain a festering sore in the search for peace in the region. Certain interest groups in the Western world have equated the call for a serious and analytical look a the situation as being 'anti-semitic' (the 'last taboo', as mentioned in the question.) While this 'equation' is heeded by western leaders, terrorism will flourish. Israel is acting like a little boy whose older brother is the strongest in the the school, and by extension, the little brat is going around doing whatever he likes, knowing that his BIG brother will protect him.
We should ask ourselves: For how long are we going to allow this situation to continue? Until we are FORCED to sit down and LISTEN, or until we have a war between religions? Is it too much to ask to LISTEN?

What about all the innocent Israelis that have continuously been attacked by the Palestinians? And what about all the other neighboring countries that kicked Jews out of their country because they were an "Islamic state?" Israel has the right to defend herself, and they have the right to exist in peace. I don't have any problems with supporting that. They live in an area the size of Rhode Island. Let them have their state. If the Palestinians stop allowing terrorists to run their little so-called government, and would stop attacking Israel and accepts Israel's existence, there would be peace. So why can't they leave Israel alone? Seriously? Why can't they do that? No to mention, Israel is a great ally to the US.

Thinker.. Are you crazy? Absolute rubbish. The form of reporting we get concerning Israel is never explicit. Inuendo is the order of the day and as they own most of the US and British media, you need to take your blinkers off. However,..
The United States should heed the story of David and Goliath. I do not really want to comment on Israel for fear of being labelled Anti-Semite, but the world civilisations have changed in the past and I suspect with Nuclear bombs being acquired by all and sundry the US needs to broaden it's range of friends.

I think that's nonsense. The American media routinely take the side of the so-called Palestinians against Israel, including criticizing the Israelis for responding militarily to terrorist actions. Yet seldom does anyone mention anti-Semitism.

I find the opposite, most people are anti-semetic, including many media sources. Israel is our only ally in the middle east, why do you want to get rid of them? :|

Is there a problem with the U.S. being allies with Israel?

Or are you trying to say that Israel is a bad influence on the United States or that we shouldn't be allies with Israel?

I'm not understanding what the problem is with Israel and the U.S. being allies?
