pyramid, structure
pyramid. The true pyramid exists only in Egypt, though the term has also been applied to similar structures in other countries. Egyptian pyramids are square in plan and their triangular sides, which directly face the points of the compass, slope upwards at approximately a 50° angle from the ground and meet at an apex.

No-ones really sure, in fact people have a hard time agreeing when they were built, let alone how they were built. Common wisdom dictates they were built by one of the pharoahs (one of the Ramses I think) using thousands of slaves. There are various issues with this theory though:
1. The amount of effort needed to build 1 of the large pyramids at Giza would be stunning, even using modern construction techniques it would take years and cost billions. Some people doubt that, without things like cranes and engines, it would even be possible.
2. The construction of the Giza pyramids implies a degree of precision not normally associated with ancient, primitive people. For example the Giza pyramids are aligned North/South with an accuracy of 0.05 degrees, which is just ridiculous. It raises alot of questions, like how did they even know where North was, some people say they used the stars as guides (i.e. these days you could use the pole star) but the problem is that the earth wobbles in orbit and the pole star doesn't always point to true north, it will wobble in the sky in time with the earth's wobbles. It also raises the question, if the ancients found a star or set of stars, that did represent true north, how would they know it?
3. There is evidence to suggest that the Giza pyramids weren't all built at once, for example in one of them (or all 3 of them, I'm not sure) there is a large difference between the blocks in the bottom half of the pyramid and those in the top half. The lower ones are much larger and more neatly engineered, the upper ones are smaller and less well engineered. Given that most people get better at things as time goes by rather than getting worse, this implies that either the second half was very rushed or that the first part was built by a different, more advanced group.
There are other things as well, many people imagine that the Sphynx was built at the same time as the pyramids, however the Sphynx is marked by vertical erosion marks. Some geologists caused a huge fuss a while back by pointing out that you don't get vertical erosion marks from sand, from sand you get horizontal erosion marks as the sand is blown past the stone by wind. The only way you could reasonably get vertical marks is from water erosion, as water falls on top of the thing and pours down over the sides. Since there hasn't been that much water in that area of Egypt for 12,000 years, it would make sense to say that the Sphynx was around in that time.

The pyramids were built one huge block at a time by thousands of workers. It was believed that the workers were slaves, but that belief has been changing. Building a pyramid took many skilled workers. Each large block was constructed and hauled into place. Many died in this process from accidents, others from exhaustion.

Yes, some two and a half million large arkward heavy stones were quarried and heft into place, one at a time. The tricky part is the large number of very much heavier special feature stones that were placed highup in the pyramids... The logistics of getting a stone of nearly thirty tons raised by some eighty metres shows they had a fanatical level of committment. It would be extremely difficult today, with all our modern hydraulic heavy plant and machinery.
The secret chambers which have been discovered are so intruiging, I hope the decision is taken to -publicly- open them in my lifetime.

I saw a documentary on TV trying to prove the pyramids were built by aliens due to the precise measurements used. But I really don't know.

Using a very advanced sytem of wights and using a massive amount of workers.
Stone was brought to teh sight through the Nile, then it was taken un the pyramide by workers helped by pulleys.
There was a high cost in lifes as there where many accidents.

the pyramids were built by moving four ton blocks over vast expanses of desert, apart from that no one really knows. Also, contrary to what most believe, the people who built them were not slaves, they were volunteers who believed that their labor would help their Pharaoh to reach the next life, something they thought he deserved.

That still remains a mystery, they are not sure of the origin or the engineering of these great monuments built by the kings, but they arecheologists have speculations. It took thousands and thousands of slaves to put these blocks together, and the shape so unique, they had some great knowlege of engineering and the use of machinery like pulleys, and levers.

when huge tornadoes swept through Egypt it created funnels that dropped sand in a pyramid shape and over time this became petrified and hard as stone, wind and erosion over time caused the step like look on the facade. then the Egyptians dug deep tunnels under them to stay out of the hot sun...it got so cold down there they had to wrap themselves up in cloth and then couldn't untie so they died that way :o( such a sad thing that happened. I would try that if I were you.

the pharoah would get someone to make plans of pyramids. they would then build them by starting with underground tombs they may have and then get slaves to bring huge bricks up ramps on rollers and place them where they needed to go. The ramps would get higher and higher as they neared the top of the pyramid.
