The moon is about 1/4 the diameter of Earth, but the Earth is only about 1/1,000,000 the size of the sun (It truly is a small world after all huh?) And there are some stars even bigger than the sun out there.

The Sun is the closest star to Earth and it is bigger than Earth. Real Big. Moon is smaller than Earth.
There are stars and nebulae in this galaxy (The Milky Way) that are much bigger than our Sun; but they are so far away that we use various types of telescopes: x-ray, radio, Hubble and others to name a few.
If you need approximate sizes of Sun, Earth, and Moon try NASA's website.

the moon is quite smaller and that is why it orbits the earth and not the other way around.

the sun is many times bigger than the Earth

A great deal of stars are bigger, but there are plenty of dwarf stars out there that could be (and probably are) smaller than the Earth.
