Is it bad to get sore knees after running?
I ran 3.5 miles yesterday and my knees are sore that it hurts to walk up or down stairs. Does anyone know why and would this problem call for knee surgery in the future?

I'm in good shape, but my knees just took a toll.

If you are a beginner and had a run of 3.5 miles for first or second time the soreness is common.
Soreness comes because of deposition or impaired clearance of lactic acid from muscles and joints.
But if you are a runner and used to run for this much distance, soreness is the sign of minor muscle and ligament wear and tear and increased amount of lactic acid.
To prevent soreness warm up nicely before getting the pace, stretch the muscles in a proper way and breathe properly and have a 10 min cool down period at the end of run, wear a knee cap, never rum in uneven surfaces. After this also if you have soreness try ice therapy and consult your trainer or doctor.

I've had a lot of knee problems and it sounds like your knee is definitely on the verge of a more serious injury. Just be thankful that you have dislocated it yet or torn any ligaments. Here's some suggestions for strengthening and taking care of your knee. 1. Build up your calf muscles. You will be amazed at how much stress this will take off of your knees. 2. Always warm and stretch before running for long periods. 3. Pay attention to your knee and don't ignore it when it starts hurting. Stop running if you have to. 4. It might help to ice the knee after a workout. I've dislocated both knees a couple of times and I can tell you it is no fun. Good luck!

Yes, it is bad to get knees that sore. You probably should try exercises with less impact on your knees. Speed walking, bicycling, or swimming would be much better for you.

i think you need to go and check for a doctor, sometimes knees or other section of your body hurts is because of the weather changes and the tireness... and or you got hurt on that spot specifically... then if you over do exercise, it might hurt. you need to see a doctor, and drink maybe pain remover, and or go to a specialist to masage your knee it works, because my spin got hurt before and it really do works after a good masage...good luck

The shoes do matter but the knees are just something that your body does to tell you that your legs are tired!!!

You should have it checked out, not normal to have this happen. Might not need surgery, but might not be able to keep up your running..Only way to know what is going on is to have a doctor check it out.

make sure you have a good pair of running shoes. NIke shocks are really good and will cost about 100-125
