Over the years, I have found Nokia to be the most reliable and hardy phones, from the point of view of both software and hardware.
These phones are stable, do not break when they are dropped, and their software is user-friendly.
I would recommend the Nokia 6280.
I have jut got it for my son, and it is both stylish and durable. At least, he hasn't damaged it in the past 2 months!!

i've had nokia for a few years, and it's been reliable. (2nd phone - changed providers). i had a motorola star-tek about 3 years ago and it was crap from the get-go. my sister has a samsung that keeps cutting off all the time. very annoying to her. it's some sort of "energy/battery saver" but it drives her nuts and she can't get it to turn that feature off.

I'm a big fan of Motorola, ever since I got my first cell phone, I've had a Motorola. The Razr is a great model, it's really slim and sleek but still has lots of great features.

continualrelic, crap is crap wether it's free or not. may i interest you in some free ringtones....heh
now the question
about he phone-i'd say it depends on you. do you drop it a lot? like i do mine. ask people in your area about overage problems. your friends right. figuring out who has best coverage will lead you in the right direction. few phonemanufactureres offer all models to all providers so picking a provider will give you a choice of phone models. do you like flip phones or not. really comes down to you. ive had good nokia's, sanyo's, and motorolla's decide what features you want then make the phone fit your needs. all about coverage. who wants a really cool looking phone that has chronic poor reception? id rather have the not cool looking phone that always had good signal and always worked

Sony Erricson. My Z500a has had the crap beaten out of it and it still works. It gets a signal wherever I am. It has camera, video, games, internet, AIM, texting, ringtones, graphics, music dj, etc.
All together a great phone.
