The best way of knowing it without any embarrsmentis play the guitar when you're alone at home. If you succeed to play it in tune you can perform publicaly.

Know your own limits, if you think you can honestly play some half decent riffs and bridges, you should know if you're good enough or not. It's not a case of being egotisitcal, just knowing what you are.

Find a song you don't know how to play and see how long it takes you to play and how well.

play and if nobody throws anything at you, it's a sign you can play. If people come towards you and sing-along it means you're actually quite good.
