If it is an internal ultrasound, they will require you to have a full bladder. They put an ultrasound wand inside of you (vaginally), and then they can see any of your internal "workings" in depth.
You may just have a cyst, and they might not have to do anything about it...they can go away on their own. The cyst might be interfering with your cycle if it's on your ovary.
Make sure someone goes with you so that you have someone there to be your support system.
You probably will not get results that day, since a lab tech does the ultrasound, and later a doctor has to go over the pictures.
Good luck...I hope everything is okay. Chances are that you are fine.

I agree with the person who said you will probably have an internal ultrasound and an external one.
The external is exactly as everyone said....jelly on your belly, and a thing that looks like a fat computer mouse rolling over your sking. No pain at all.
The internal is not painful either...they use the jelly on a wand (that looks like a female pleasuring tool, if you know what I mean) and they put it in your vagina to get a different angle of your ovaries. They both are very quick and over in a matter of minutes.
Don't worry...nothing to it! Good Luck.

You did say if it was a regular ultrasound or an internal ultrasound with the wand. Most likely it is internal if they are going to look at your ovaries. You have to drink a lot of water beforehand. There is no pain. Feels like a gyn exam that is all.
Good luck!

ultrasound will not hurt you at all .Its VERY important to get it done
if you are in that much pain.
As for the ultrasound the are going to put a little jell on the area of pain (this is the best way I cant put it) and use a small round camera and roll it around over your left over ovary. you will be able to see it on the screen as well....I have had alot of ultra sounds , for all my pregnancies. No pain.. good luck

Ultrasound imaging is painless, fast and easy. You will lie on your back, or side, on the examining table. The sonographer will spread the gel on your skin and place the transducer firmly against your body. They will move the transducer to obtain the appropriate images. The examination usually takes 30 minutes.

I don't know what's happening with you GF. But there is nothing to be scared of ultrasound. All they do is keep moving a device over your body and pass sound waves. does not hurt a bit.
Good Luck

Don't worry about an ultrasound - all they do is basically put a probe on your tummy and voila! an image appears on the screen.
No pain, no uncomfort

they squirt some gooey stuff on you belly and rub some cold thing over it, its totally painless, the worst part is you have to be naked from the waist down, and lots of places dont even have you that anymore
