G'day,

Unfortunately you did not specify who are you going to use it for. If it is for big company with 10+ workstations, definitely buy big brand names such as Cisco or Netgear (higher class models) since their after-sales support is crucial in those kind of environment.

However if it is for home/small business use, then Netgear, D-Link or just about any brands you can find in any computer shops in your local area, since it is cheap and if it is not working after a year (when the warranty expires) then you can just easily discard it and get a new one, maybe even with wireless link.

Hope this helps. Good Luck :)

The number one reason is price. They are some of the cheapest. In addition they are a product line of Cisco.

Cisco is the top of the line brand and meets the needs of businesses. They are the industry leader in all things network.

Linksys is also very popular brand that prices somewhere between the two mentioned - closer to the inexpensive end of the scale.

For home, I'd let price be your guide (most of the brand sites offer rebates!). For business, go with the best if you want to keep your job! I'm kidding, we have a 100-person shop and use Linksys routers, switches and hubs for small split-outs like an extra printer in an office. Our switches in the server room are Cisco.

If you have a home or SOHO network, then my recommendation is to go for LINKSYS switches. Linksys is a sub-division of Cisco.
