I went during August last summer (14th through the 22nd.) It was ridiculously hot! I'm from New Hampshire, and it gets up to the hundreds here, easily in August, too. But while we were there EVERYDAY was over 110 degrees, and the humidity is awful. I will say though, do not let this affect your trip! It's still a fine time to go! Plus, it's the Happiest Celebration on Earth and you don't want to miss that, it's almost over! In fact, I just booked another trip for this August (1st through 11th.) I'm so excited! I mean, there's plenty you can do to help cope with the heat. Bring your own water bottles because they sell Dasani for almost $3.00 a bottle! And it really gets expensive! They sell those spray bottle/fans to help keep you cool. All the kids love those! Make sure you bring sunglasses and/or hats. The sun is incredibly bright. Maybe bring an extra shirt, or something when you go out to the parks, because you may get very sweaty, especially the boys (if there's any.) If you're staying at a Disney Resort, you have nothing to worry about. The best part is that you can go back to the room whenever you want to cool down in the AC, and then go back to the parks later. I've read that July/August are the highest attendance records for Walt Disney World, which is probably because the rates are cheaper (it's the value season) and people are out of school. I had no problem with the crowds though. I've gone before in November, and I've heard that's one of the best times to go and it has a much lower attendance record, but I noticed no difference in the amount of people. I love going to Walt Disney World, even in August. And I'll probably always be going in August!

Have fun!

Our last trip was in September. The crowds were very light - our longest wait was 45 minutes for Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios. None of the other waits even came close to that. The parks close a little earlier, but not so much that you really miss anything. And if you stay on-site, you can take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours, when a park is either open early or late just for resort guests. We did take our 3 kids out of school for that trip. The teachers gave us what work they could ahead of time, and the kids did it on the plane or at the airport. It was early enough in the school year that they weren't really missing any significant new concepts yet. The school was supportive of it, and our kids are good students. So those certainly factored into our decision. If we had kids who struggle or a school that was going to hassle us, it might have been different. I believe it was a good choice - we got to see and do a lot, and we didn't have to fight crowds anywhere we went. The weather is still quite hot and humid then. You won't really get much of a break when it comes to that.

I live in Jacksonville and it's very hot in August here and were considered North Florida and Orlando is Central Florida so it will be even hotter. Make sure to apply lot's of sunblock, have a rain poncho for the afternoon showers and drink lot's of water. The kids in Fl will have gone back to school in August so the park might not be as crowded as during the other months. Remember to invest in the Speed passes for the rides if they have them there, so you can spend a little less time standing in line. Go to the library and check out the Disney Guides for dummies so you can see what rides you really want to go on ahead of time and where they are in the park. Good Luck

I live in Orlando so listen up...

#1. It is very hot and HUMID in Orlando in July/August.
#2. You will get a shower at night (which can sometimes spoil festivities that are going on after dark but do cool things down)
#3. If you do decide to come
a. plan on what parks you will go to (there are 4 [magic kingdom, animal kingdom, epcot center, MGM studios]) I would recommend for kids your age in this order... Animal, Epcot, MGM, Magic Kingdom.
b. have a backup in case is DOES rain... you are in the midst of hurricane season and even though one storm in the last 50-60 years has directly hit Orlando (Charlie, 2003) we do get a lot of rain from off-shore hurricanes. International Drive gives a lot of places to go and things to see and do.
c. Get a comfortable hotel. Orlando has the cheapest (and some of the NICEST) hotels (Las Vegas is second) in the country. Stay off Disney grounds, get a suite and make sure they have shuttle service.

August in Florida is very hot, but the lines are very short. It's a bit of a trade off. However, as long as pack a lot of sun tan lotion, it's a great time to go. Oh, tip: Universal Studios is the better place to go with kids ages 14 and 10. Enjoy your trip.

August is better than say June or july, but it is still pretty hot and muggy. October/November are better months to travel to Disney World, but if August is the only time that works for your family, then you'll be fine.

Absolutley not!!!! It is far to hot. It's probably one of the worst months, along with July and Sept. REalizing that your children are out of school at that time for summer break, but you may want to reconsider and go in November, December or Spring break, when the kids are out of school. You will not enjoy waiting in lines in that heat. It's unbareable. I got numerous times at various times of the year and found that the spring is a much better, quieter time, especially if you can afford to take your kids out of school for a few days, when Disney world is a lot less crowded.

August is hot. My favorite time of the year to visit Disney World is December.

No not really. For the following reasons:
1. Hot as Hell ( since you have to stand for a long time in lines at the parks and walk a lot) Bring water with you
2. You might have to dodge a hurricane or two.

The best time to go to Florida is Feb- April.

Good gracious no. Not unless you dearly love the HOT HOT and HUMID weather. Our experience was that it was so hot that we got tired very quickly. We were all snapping at one another and the kids were at each other constantly. On the other hand, when we would go in the cooler months, our length of stay was three times as long as summertime. I wouldn't go in August even if I had been given a free trip!!!!!!!!!!!
