Meditation, in the sense commonly used nowadays, is not about thinking but about doing specific exercises to calm and clear the mind. It also gives us practice in developing self-discipline and patience. Many popular meditation techniques involve the breath. Some just observe the breath, being aware of it going in, going out. Others count the breath from one to four, one to ten, or whatever. Any of these work because they keep us from thinking in a "monkey mind" fretful, busy-about-nothing way. Some meditators focus on a mantra (usually a chant in a foreign language) or a mandala (a mental picture). These also help keep the mind from babbling to itself. When the mind is not nattering on, the body deeply relaxes and accelerated rest and healing often takes place.

The main thing is to do it every day, even if you only do one minute. For a beginner, 10 to 15 minutes is probably a good practice time to start with.

People often expect things to happen during their meditation, failing to realize that it is a practice in stillness. If you are watching lovely visions or hearing beautiful music, you aren't really meditating. Those things should be gently put aside with all other distractions. Good sitting!

I do a sort of meditation where you're not supposed to think about anything. You watch your thoughts sail by and don't cling to them.
It's very clearing. When I'm too busy-minded I just listen to myself breathe and I try not to think anything but breathe in, breathe out...

Nothing! U shouldn't have any thoughts. If u find that hard, try to focus on your breathing. Breath deeply and enjoy the fresh air going in and out. Lol
