2005 Chevy Optra, maintained regularly. Now I sometimes have to really floor it to get moving and sometimes it's like it "skips." I know next to nothing about cars & my hubby is away for a few weeks. Tranny fluid is fine, so's oil, I'm just worried cuz I'm nine months pregnant & this would be a really bad time to be carless (I live in the boonies.)

You need to take it to your nearest Chevy repair shop. From the information you gave it sounds like your idle air control valve might be stopped up ( cheap easy fix ) or possibly your fuel filter (also cheap ) or fuel pump. That is one of those things that needs to be looked at because it will only get worse if left ignored.

when u floor it does engine race before car moves or does engine just have a lugging sound like it is having hard time picking up rpms if engine races tranny is bad if engine is slugginsh picking up rpms then engine is having fuel system problems
do u have a tachometer by speedometer if so put car in gear and watch tach as u take off if tach goes up to say 1500-200 and car isnt moving then tranny trouble if tach shows 1500 or less and car is moving then most likely a fuel system problem like injector or fuel filter

Is your "Check Engine" lite on? If so, you probably have an engine problem, possibly a cylinder misfire. It could also mean a transmission problem, I'm not familiar with the transmission in this particular vehicle and how much electronic controls it uses. But anyways, if the "Check Engine" lite is on, definitely have the vehicle looked at, and being in your condition , IMHO, you should have the vehicle looked at anyways! HTH!! Good Luck with the baby!
