a) G-String: A panty with a very thin (string-like) band of fabric in the back.

b) Tanga: A lingerie pant style that has thin straps across the hips. Similar to a boy short, but slightly higher in the waist and lower in the leg.

I personally can vouch for the Tanga-style of panties, but know nothing of the G-string. If you're in the market for Tangas, may I suggest Victoria's Secret? They have a wide variety of styles (including the Brazilian and low-rise Brazilian tanga), materials (lace, microfiber, nylon/spandex, fishnet), and designs.
I hope this helps.

In australia a g string is what the rest of the world calls a thong and a thong here is something you wear on your feet.

Horrible looking knickers that go up the crack of your bum.
They are hideous to look at and worse to wear.
