How long were you on Depo? I was on it for 2 1/2 years. My last injection was July 2004 and I got my first period back April 2005! They were very irregular ( heavy, twice a month, break through bleeding, etc..) until this Nov. Ibegan to get them only once a month finally. But they are never consistant, some times 30-35 days instead of 28. So it can take awhile to get it back and then awhile longer to regulate! My ob said she could put me on birth control to help regulate my ovulation but I was against it because I am trying to conceive. As for Clomid, this is the drug they use to stimulate the ovaries to make conception more likely. I had no idea they would use it to try to bring on periods. Taking clomid increases the chance of pregnancy so if you went off the shot to get pregnant I would say go for it!

Have you ever thought about this..........
Not having a period every month IS NOT natural. Your body needs to shed it's lining (period) to clean it's self. If you don't have a period for months or years how is your body cleaning it's self? Alot of my friends did the depo shot and most had serious issues with it, like not bleeding, ever and having to wait almost a year after the last shot to have a period and gaining EXCESSIVE weight. I know it's convienant but sometimes you should put your bodys' health and cleanliness above what's quick and easy for you! I used the BC pill before I started a family (the pill gave me side affects after my first child but not before her) then I started counting the days and I ALWAYS used a week window so there wouln't be any screwups. The only time a got pregnant using this method was when I didn't count and mark on the calendar the days, one month. Why aren't you taking a pill, at least you still bleed monthly. I'm older, have birthed two kids and I'm done "breeding" (joke) so I had my tubes tied. I still a have a monthly period and at no risk of getting pregnant again. It's the best life!!!

The first time i went on the depo-- i had nothing but problems, i bled all the time and just felt generally crap.

The second time i tried it i found it good-- i stopped bleeding straight away. I was lucky i had a period within 6 weeks after stopping it. Although this time i only had 2 injections, the previous time i was on it for 2 yrs. I think it depends how long u have been on it. Also it took me just over a year to conceive my second child

hi there,

im not sure if you are trying to coniceve or not but i have pcos, and ive took clomid i didnt have periods either but they gave me something to bring the period on so to speak then i took the clomid as normal, i cant remember what it was called though but i know it was in tablet form.

also if you have got pcos you could take something know as metformin which can help bring on a period, are you seeing a gyno ? as this is the best person to speak to, and they really do know much more than the dr's about this stuff.

it usually takes the same amount of time you were on depo for your body to get rid of it completely up to one year then it stays at about a year if you have been on it longer. one suggestion my doc had was to take the pill the one that gives you a 7 day break for a period to make things regular. if it gets painful as in doubled over in pain afterwards ask for a scan, as i beleive depo caused some cysts. sorry to say it but it took me over a year and a half to conceive after stopping jan 2004 conceived july last year. suffice to sa after the scan the doctor was surprised when i told him i was pregnant! good luck it's not fun.
