Yes, he is a role player. He isn't the star like he used to be. But he still has a lot of talent.

David Beckham is one of the pillars of the English squad and was the architect of the two out of three goals scored so far - an outcome guaranteeing England as one of the 16 teams in the next stage.
His performance wasn't about getting the odds right - it's the measured result of his special talent, big-game experience and intelligent read of the game - not from the elevated view that spectator stands provide... but influencing games at eye-level playing fields. I dread to think of an English team without Beckham.

Beckham is a good player, but he's getting older. He's about 31 now, isn't he? And I know Cafu is still playing and he's 36, but he's something special. If Scolari had taken the England job instead of being Portugal's coach, Scolari would probably have told Beckham that he's getting too old.

yes he does but i think that the coach needs to let some of the real stars on the field shine. yes he can take great free kicks but sometimes the other players need to take them too i was very annoyed watching England games seeing beckam take all the free kicks what will happen if he is injured for a long time and cant play or he decides to retire will England then give up all their free kicks? in short his celebrity status overshadows his weak football skills

Yes he does he is a play maker, i don't think you know to much about football, your knowledge is lacking.Garrick is not a play maker on par with Beckham and i also don't like Beckham but he is a good player, as a player he marshals is players around him.

beckham... though no longer the star he was, still is amazingly talented. he is the creative power of the team. it was his amzing cross that got england their crucial goal agains trinidad and it was his freekick that got the goal in the opening game... without him, i doubt whether england will manage to score. but on the other hand, he does seem to be a liability, and is a defensive weak link... i think he should play only the 1st half and then be subbed out....

Yes, I mean he's the captain you might not see it but he holds the team if he didn't play against Paraguay it was going to be a goaless draw.

Free kicks and corners are worth it. His passing is still pretty good. But he is getting old. Who would you start in his place?
