To be thorough you need to perform a DOS bootup and scan for Viruses.

Download Sysclean.com and its virus definition file lpt491.zip from Trend-Micro. It's FREE for home users.

Create a DOS boot floppy or CD disk and include this 2 files. Unzip the virus definition file first of course. Use Nero Burning Rom to create a bootable CD disk. Boot and let Sysclean do its thing. It may take hours to do a complete scan and destroy any viruses, but your pc will come out clean as a whistle.

After it's all completed go download AVG7 from Grisoft.com, which is also FREE to safeguard from future viruses hassles.

For Spywares install FREE Spybotbd and its updates.

Gator is a relatively harmless, though privacy invading, piece of spyware installed when you install Kazaa or a similar P2P filesharing program. The easiest way to remove it would be to use a spyware removal program such as Spy Sweeper, SpyBot, or AdAware, but be forewarned that your P2P program will probably not function anymore if Gator is removed.

Probably the easiest way is to go to http://www.symantec.com and download a fix for the virus. You could also read where the file is and delete it manually, but make sure not to open it.
