You can use Yahoo Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/join/ where you have the option of starting a website for free or low cost hosting of $8.95 per month.

Or you can use Yahoo Small Business Hosting http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/compare.php where hosting plans range from $11.95 to $39.95

Free is good for personal websites but has significant limitations for a web-based operation. For one, having a geocities web address does not look professional - it just looks cheap. You also need to consider the following:

- Scalability: what if your business grows and you need more features. This means you will move to a paid hosting as free hosting has severe limitations on what you can do. Such a move is costly -- you will be basically changing your domain name from http://www.geocities.com/mywidgets/widgets.html to http://www.widgets.com . This implies that all your marketing will be put to waste as you will be starting from scratch all over again

- Your plans to monetize your website. If you go for the free Geocities, you will have limited options in showing ads. You cannot apply to programs like Google Adsense because Geocities is showing Yahoo ads and Adsense has a clause that prohibits its publishers from displaying competing ads in the same page.

- The requirements of your business. With free hosting, you are limited to the scripts available - you can't put in your own. If you plan to add an ecommerce component later on, you won't be able to do it.

I suggest that if you are intent in pursuing a web business, start it right and do it with a paid hosting. There are a number of low cost hosting providers out there such as Godaddy.com http://www.godaddy.com

Google has started a new website service that looks really good, and is easy to set up with no html knowledge.

Just do a google search on google website. It's free.

you will need to get a paid host site and a domain name if you want a REAL web site. Or use something like geocities it's free but makes a really bad business web site!
