is it true that baldness comes from the mothers genes?

no, if your son's father is bald, he'll be safe (unless YOUR father was bald). but your daughter's son may be bald.

it is linked to your mother genes, the X gene, which , if you are a male, you get only form your mother... therefore, check if your mother's father or brother are bald, and see how you will turn out...
however, there is a possibility that you have inherited a recessive gene form your mother, that doesn't have the baldness in it, so, to conclude:
if your mother's brother and father are bald, chances are--you will be as well, although, not necessarily.

the mother could carry that gene but not be affected with it.. if she passed it to her son he could be affected.
