Your legal next of kin is your spouse or partner if you are not married then it goes down to children and then other blood relatives.

they do become your legal next of kin but i think you have to sign a form saying so or if you don't want them to that has to be put on a form as well because doctors etc will usually go with the wishes of your wife/husband unless informed otherwise if you are unable to make the decision yourself. and things usually go to the widow/widower if there is no will.
and i think the apparent incest thing is just the wording.

A marriage is a legal contract, unless you put together a will stating otherwise, if you die, your financial assets are transferred to your spouse.
If your spouse is deceased, it would transfer to your children next.
If you don't have any, then they seek the next of kin...whether it be parents, or siblings... whatever.
Regardless, it is your right to choose this and have it in writing. It makes things much quicker. If you don't have the paperwork - then all of your assets have to go through probate court before they can be distributed. If you have a will in place, it happens much much quicker. This can be a lot easier on your family, then to have to deal with court proceedings on top of the loss of you!

Yes, until you are married your next of kin is your nearest blood relative. After you marry, it's usual that your spouse will know your wishes best, regarding cremation, organ-donation, kind of service, etc, and they make those decisions, rather than any family member you don't live with.
AFAIK, marriage usually makes any will you have made invalid too.

When you get married, your new partner automatically becomes your inheriter. You can still name a child or parent as your next of kin as contacts in emergencies. If you want your possesions to go to your children etc you would have make a will or trust, and would have to do this with your solicitor.

stop playing with words, next of kin is of your biological kin, your wife and you are starting a new kinship, so blood is only an issue after childbirth, then incest is considered if you abuse your children!

I think from a legal standpoint the spouse is next of kin. At least that is what I have assumed, but you know what happens when you assume.

it is only your blood relative if you are not married, it is by- law not next of kin for most medical and legal proceedings unless otherwise stated.

I don't think your sister would stop being your relative, even with marriage, it just does not mean she is your next of kin
