I found babelfish not so promising in this case. If I did in reverse order, it gives different meaning.

I believe that dictionary.com has a translator option.

Well, if it's just a word, then I strongly recommend:
http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp
It can translate Japanese to English, E to J, J to J (another words dictionary in Japanese for Japanese speakers, authentic definitions)

You should try babelfish by google. It's where I find my simple Japanese and Chinese translations.
