The base? I have checked my DY book, but no mention of a particular name though. Is it a brick wall? or Dry stone wall? Or a retaining wall? this might make a difference?

not sure what ur asking, but the lower part of a wall consist of a shoe or bottom plate. below that is ur rim joinst and joist and sub floor. now if ur talking about below the wall, the shoe, then its ur foundation or if on concrete it's ur slab.
