I'm not familiar with which brand is better for laptops as I have one built into my computer (XP Media Edition) but I highly reccomend that you get an external box that attaches via USB. This will utilize less of your computing power and has the added benefit that you can use it on multiple computers easily.

Don't forget Analogue TV transmission in Australia will stop in 2008. Your analogue TV Tuner card will become useless in 2 more years!
I don't think you can fit a card anywhere in a laptop?
Buy a Digital TV Version instead. There are plenty of USB based options out there now. Only a little bit bigger than a USB pen drive too! Just go surf... USB Digital TV Tuners.

I have never used a laptop TV tuner. For a laptop you wil need any USB based tv tuner. If your laptop has got usb2 then go for a usb 2 version.
I prefer the Leadtek winfast range of tv tuners but pinnacle and Haupage are also well known.
If you intend upgrading to media center edition of XP or you are going to upgrade to windows Vista then i reccommend that you get a card that is Media center edition certified (MCE).
Another issue of concern is the Analog to digital switch which may be happening in your country in the near future. If you buy an analog card now it might be useless in a few years time so be careful.

yes antenna is the most important and if I where you in NEW Jersey I would point right at new york city , you should get tons of free channels , you will always do good with a outdoor antenna and channel master4221HD seems to be very popular and I use it for my HDTV outdoors to snatch channels from 90 miles away.
