Both to a certain extent. I think life tends to imitate art. Art seems to attempt to influence life, causing life to imitate art. Art doesn't seem to like to imitate life but create a fictional life that is overly idyllic or tragic.

art imitates life, it captures a moment or a scene but the true essence (the overall feelings, the history, the emotions in the air at that time) behind that scene are lost. it is therefore an imitation.

Art is always ahead of time and a fine piece of art is timeless.
Ppl may not be able to explain art at present, but through time they may be able to appreciate it.

I don't quite believe that imitation thing!!

Art imitates life..we can not add one jot or tittle to ourselves (logically)..art is the reflection of our thoughts, fantasies, dreams and experiences..so can you tell me how life can imitate a thing that is created by us initially..hope that helps :)

the two. a important sort of the time artwork imitates existence by utilising copying it. maximum innovations are an identical yet with diverse interpretations to it. existence imitates artwork whilst the artwork/artist creates some thing new that has on no account been created earlier. So the respond is the two. artwork imitates existence and existence imitates artwork.
