Being from and currently living in South Carolina, I can tell you that tornadoes are possible in every area of the state.
However, tornadoes here are usually small and of short duration.
Hurricanes are possible along the coast and a short ways inland. In 1989, hurricane Hugo gave us a direct hit and (up until that time) it was the costliest storm in U.S. history. Lots of tornadoes spawned by that killer storm.
Lightning storms are very common here in the summer. You'll need to take shelter when they come along.
But all in all, the weather here is pretty swell. Hope you enjoy living in our state.

Normally they have few tornadoes in South Carolina, but if your in the path of one then one is enough. No it is not in "Tornado Alley" and no they do not have many compared to states like Texas, Oklahoma, etc. but when a major thunderstorm, or a Hurricane comes on shore, they can get some spun off of those. I would say the place for the least amount of tornadoes is Maine, or any New England state, and then Hawaii. Good Luck
