What is the best household method for cleaning suede?

Depends on the type of suede you have. Brushing is the only 'safe' way.

Also rubbing with a bath towel to restore some of its nap after abuse helps.

Pencil eraser for dry stains.

If it is a nasty stain you can not brush of you can use destructive measures. Use soap or what ever. After that the suede will be ruined... no doubt. Shave the suede and sand it to become suede again.

I do not recommend this as it needs a lot of skill but if all fails you could give it a try.
