I know some of the answers you've received say that you shouldn't wear foundation if you have acne, and that may be true of regular foundations, but there are several brands on the market today that have foundation/make-up geared specifically for acne-prone or oily skin, such as Neutrogena (in fact, their website says, "If you use foundation, try SkinClearing oil-free makeup, which provides clean, natural-looking coverage").
The first thing you should look for when buying anything for your face is for items that say non-comedogenic, which means that these items won't clog your pores or aggravate pimples that already exist; other key words are "oil-free," in make-up products and phrases such as, "salicylic acid" or "benzoyl peroxide," in cleansing lines. And if you don't want your skin drying out too much, then look for "alcohol-free," because alcohol will definitely dry out your skin.
I used to have problem skin as well and went to the dermatologist, which is where I found out about Neutrogena (see their product line at neutrogena.com). They have a complete line specifically geared to acne-prone skin, both in facial-cleansing and make-up products.
One thing that I look for in foundations now (and when I dealt with frequent break-outs) is a light-weight formula. More than anything, I hate being cognizant of having any foundation on my face at all. What I mean is that, if I can feel the weight of a foundation on my face, I won't wear it; I want to forget that I even have anything on at all. Neutrogena foundation is perfect for this. It covers and does a flawless job without weighing down your face or reminding you that you have foundation on and it doesn't clog you pores (again, that's the non-comedogenic part). And they have both bottle and compact foundation.
I personally recommend using the same line in everything you use. When I had to worry about break-outs, I used Neutrogena's foundation along with their cleansing products. This ensures that everything you're using is designed to work together.
Again, there are several companies out there who have make-up geared for acne-prone skin and even places such as Wal-Mart have their own cheaper versions of the higher-priced products which should work just as well. I've mentioned Neutrogena only because it's what I personally use and know. Just do your homework. Visit websites, ask around. Anyway, I really hope this helps you out.

I think there's loads of make-ups created for the problematic skin. Clinique or Manhattan Clearface to name a few offer a special line for the skin with acne. They also offer special foundations, concealers and face powders. Try your local health and beauty retailer, the shop assistant will certainly recommend you something fitting your needs.
As for the tips about using the foundation for the skin inflected by acne, check e.g. this site:

Cover Girl makes make up with Noxema in it, which is healthier than most for those that suffer from acne, but it is best to speak to your doctor to determine the cause of the acne.
It could be that you need to change your diet and reduce the amounts of fatty foods you are eating. Also you should try to keep your face washed more frequently to clear the pores out.

I went to the doctors many years ago with the same problem. I didn't like the answer, but it worked. Dr Russ told me that the main problem was I was doing too much and my skin just couldn't cope with the lotions and potions. He suggested I just washed my face gently in the mornings with a soap and flannel and used a light weight moisturiser if my skin felt tight. I hated the reply and ignored it for a while, but once I found a chance to take his advice, ( far away from friends, on holiday) I found it worked). The sun helped me too, with a non-oily, light,. sun screen to prevent burning.
I used the same philosophy with my four daughters and we all have clear skin, almost all of the time and dont use "make up", other than eyeliners and lippy. Have you tried your doctor? They might give you a sixmonth course of anti-biotics, which worked well for one of the girl's boy friends, who was in a terrible state, with it all over his back as well as his face. It cleared well and he is really great looking now. (He was before, but people didn't notice!)
Just be gentle, your face isn't concrete with cracks to be filled in. Treat your face and skin with respect and it will repay you, but it does take a bit of time and courage.
Best wishes
Beebee

If you have acne you shouldn't wear foundation, as it will lead to blocked pores and even more outbreaks. You should keep your skin clean and free from any products like that.

I use Bare Escentuals, it works really good. you can sleep in it. I use to break out alot and now if I get breakouts it's usually hormonal and not from my makeup. It also covers the acne you have really good and the longer you use it it will help clear things up. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer before applying and that will help too. good luck

I've not found one, but my daughter uses witch hazel cover up and clear concealer stick, you can wear it under foundation or just on its own but if you get the right skin tone it blends really well.

Wash with Neutrogeuna wash. Bare Essentials is a good foundation. You can go to Sephora or Bare Essentials stores to get it. It works for me.
