Assuming they are now a reasonable size, pull them and leave them laying on the ground to dry off. This prevents rot when storing. After a couple of days in the sun they should be fine.

Brush back the dirt from around the tops of the onions. If they are the size you want then pull them. If the green tops have turned brown their growing might be over and you have to dig them up no matter what.

According to your description, now would be the perfect time. Pull one in an inconspicuous spot. If it looks good, do all the rest.
