You are right if this is within a family or friends (sometimes you can smile and that will help). Older is more respectful, however if this is work, it is a work pack order, the senior (position) comes first.

I had this happen to me the other day. Personally, what I do is shake hands with whoever is closer first. I didn't find it necessary to say anything, as they both noticed they'd stuck their hands out at the same time.
I'm not sure what exactly the correct etiquette is, but I also liked your solution of shaking hands with the older of the two first because it shows respect for your elders.

give the first person you shake hands with a brief wag, and the second person a good, decent shake. The first person feels priveliged they were greeted first (usually applies well to egotistical youngsters), whereas the second person feels respected for receiving a real greeting (usually applies well to wiser, more senior, more important, superior, more blood-related, more loved, more appreciated elderly). In addition, try to shake the hand of the person you don't want to speak to right then and there first, that way when you go to shake the hand of the second person, you can start the conversation then, and continue without break. If it occurs that you want to talk to the person you shook hands with first, it is considered good form to have a short chat with the person you have no interest in first, and this will be made obvious when the person your there to see makes themself look busy for a second.

i might definantly see yet another typical practitioner. typical practitioner's do no longer comprehend each and every thing, they do no longer seem to be God. i comprehend a pair of ladies who's medical doctors had to schedule them for a D&C, stating that they might unfastened the toddlers. thankfully they refused and observed yet another typical practitioner, and that they the two ended up having healthful beautiful toddlers! a lot of circumstances that's no longer the case, yet do no longer purely hear to that one typical practitioner. At a HCG point of 210, you will by no ability be waiting to work out the toddler on the ultrasound. A declining HCG point isn't a good component early on in being pregnant, it is meant to double each and every 2-3 days. yet, such as you mentioned, you had an identical component take place at the same time with your different 2 infants, so which you by no ability comprehend. My recommendation is to work out yet another typical practitioner and to no longer have a D&C except you're 7 weeks pregnant or further and nevertheless do no longer see a fetal heartbeat on ultrasound. so a techniques as putting it in God's palms... it is all which you're able to do! in case you will unfastened the toddler, there is no longer something you could truly do approximately it, yet i comprehend that would not make it harm any much less. i'm going to save you in my prayers! good success!

obviously you can't shake both at the same time. shake one person's hand first, and acknowledge the other with a smile or a nod of the head, then shake that person's hand as soon as possible.

As a mark of respect, I believe you chose correctly,
First the older person, and then the other person, and talking to both parties at the same time, so that no-one feels left out, .
This would show your confidence, and ability to control awkward situations in a mannerly, and efficient. way

i think what you did is okay...i never thought of that before actually...and when i saw your question i just thought to answer that you just shake hands with one then with another...but i think it was right that you did shake with the older one first...
ps. sometimes they might not even think of that...so, there are times that you just shake one hand then the other...
