About 80 percent of adult Americans have oral herpes, so don't let the ignorant views of some people on here give you a moment of shame.
One of the best ways to deal with herpes is to never even get the sores to begin with. The moment you begin to feel a tingle of a sore coming on, lightly soak a cotton ball in raw apple cider vinegar and apply it to the tingling area -- the acids in the vinegar kill the virus.
Also, count out 6-12 capsules (500 mg each) of LYSINE, an isolated amino acid, to take with a glass of water. It's not expensive -- you can get it at health food stores. You will have to experiment to see how much works best for you-- and I find it works better on an empty stomach. The lysine goes right where it's needed to fight the virus-- that's just one of the things lysine does in the body. It's not a drug-- it's in all meat proteins and some grains etc,. but when you take the isolated form it works FAST. In most cases the tingle simply vanishes and you don't even get the blisters-- woohoo!
Foods high in arginine (check at Google) can actually trigger a herpes outbreak-- I think perhaps the virus feeds on that particular amino acid-- who knows?
So, avoid those foods, take the lysine, and apply the vinegar whenever needed. If you get the blisters anyway, you may have taken too little lysine-- you can take more safely; the body will just use the rest of it.
If you get a blister and it itches and you MUST scratch it, treat that finger like a hazard and wash it with lots of soap and hot water-- because if you don't, the next thing you scratch or touch with that finger can get infected. That's probably why 80 percent of people have it.
Some people also use the acidophilus as mentioned by another reader-- some actually apply it right on the sores.
I prefer to find natural ways to deal with ailments instead of drugs-- and it's all up to you-- but if you follow the advice above, you can avoid more than 90% of breakouts as I have for over 10 years--
Good Luck :)

Herpes simplex virus is what develops cold sores. We may get them from sharing drinks with others, used utensils, sharing lip products, or by smooching someone which is carrying herpes simplex virus. The red bumps might be moderately uncomfortable blisters which can surface near the lips, or even the inside of the mouth or nostril, elsewhere on the face, or anywhere on your skin.
Cold sores may appear because of higher stress and anxiety, colds, fever, cold conditions, particular foods, or maybe an excess of sunshine. The region can start to itch, then the blister may turn up. The sore may dry out and establish a yellowish crusting. Cold sores may stay anywhere from seven days to 14 days. You can try to mask the cold sore using make-up, but this usually would make it worse.
To exterminate them, an individual could attempt using a cold sore specific product, employ chapstick with sunscreen, use licorice extract, ingest echinacea, vitamins C in addition to E, as well as absolutely staying away from touching it. By taking on a few lifestyle changes, it is actually attainable to hinder cold sores and even keep cold sores from reappearing.

I agree with Trish...take lysine right away and put Abreva on a few times a day. Lysine costs about 15 bucks for a bottle at GNC and Abreva costs about 15 bucks, but you only have to buy them once and they should last for a while. I use these two together and they stop the cold sores in their tracks right away and go away within a day or two. Definitely works!!

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.
remember that you can remove genital warts by surgery, freezing, laser, acid or cream but genital warts can reappear again and again because genital warts appears when your immune system is weak!
I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. However, Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again!

Drink sweet acidopholous milk. You can get it at the grocery store, and whenever I have cold sores I drink it. They clear up within a day or so.
It sounds strange, but it really works.

There really is no way of getting rid of them completly, but to help them go down quicker you have to dry them out. Last time i had one i put TCP on it! it stung like hell but it worked. If you dont want to do that then try Cymex cream. People say that they are caused by stress and not enough sleep.
