No. It's a hardware issue, not a software issue. However, DVD drives and burners can usually play CDs, and they have become much more inexpensive in recent years. I bought a DVD/CD burner for about $90, and I'm going to pop open my computer tomorrow and replace the old CD burner with it. Yeah, yeah, I know I said it last weekend, but this time I really mean it!

If your computer is a PC desktop model, it's actually fairly easy to remove and install drives and other components. I'm not ashamed to say I use the book listed below!

its not in the software or program. the limit is in the hardware. even if you have a software that would enable a cd to read dvds if your pin in the cd player is limited for playing cd, then it could not perform its function.

its best you buy a dvd player, by then you could also use it for cds.

You are trying to get something for nothing ain't you?

Time to change straight over to a DVD Burner. Getting cheap these days.

The answer to your question is a resounding NO, NADA, NYET - impossible for a CDRom drive to read data off a DVD disk. They are like water to oil, never shall the Twain meet.

It is impossible.

CD roms are not able to read a DVD format.
Buy a DVD Drive.

No. I believe it is because the lasers are different in the two drives but I'm sure someone else will have some more info on why. :)
