Come on. More then half the questions asked here sound like they were written by idiots. Is this done on purpose, is the public really this ignorant or does this site just attract really ignorant people? What happened to "No Child Left Behind"?

I don't mind the "coz" and the "lol" and other internet slang. I understand that. Even the spelling is not such a major problem. It's the "Why do most of peoples dont care about whats after "Death"?" kind of stupid questions without grammar that make me want reach out and delete the question.

That's one of the (few, in my opinion) reasons why the Internet is bad....
The Internet has its own written language. Chat rooms are full of expressions like SK8 (that could be translated into ski considering that the one who wrote the word made a mistake, because 8 is above I on the keyboard, while it's skate), ?! (that means what's up) and many others.
The need to write short instead of full words probably originates from when the Internet was beginning, when the speeds were not as fast as today and people had to wait for a long period of time to communicate through the Web. So, they were trying to cut the words in order to have faster communication...
This "vocabulary" has turned into a fashion. Almost everyone uses this language. It's for people who get bored very easily.
As far as real spelling mistakes are concerned, it's because either English and American people don't know how to write correctly or there are people of other nationalities except for English and American people...
Nevertheless, everyone here should ask questions in correct English. We all must accept that English is the international language and, especially here, we must use it correctly.
It's true that the majority of questions here are written in slang English and even worse. But we, people from other nationalities, the native languages of whom are not English and who don't live in English-speaking countries, can't recognize badly-written words that easily. We learn correct English in schools and want to communicate in the English we have learned.
So, everyone here should use the language in a way that everyone can comprehense the Q&As...

Lots of people using this forum are from all over the place, and as many have already mentioned , English is not their first language , I wish I could speak their native language as well as they speak mine. For example I wouldn't even attempt to ask a question on here in Spanish, German or indeed any other language.
Bad as you may think it is!! .
It doesn't take long to check the profiles to sort out the none English speaking from the real 'Dumbo's'. and make allowances.
I some times even like trying to translate the question into English it's like doing a crossword.
I also enjoy reading questions that are from kids that can hardly string a couple of words together. But then I suppose I am easily pleased?
However you have at least got it off your chest now and feel better for it??

1. Some people don't know how to write a sentence so that others can read it and understand it. It's true.
2. Some people just don't care about grammar and spelling. In fact, a lot of people just don't care about grammar and spelling.
3. Sometimes people that have a native language other than English actually translate their question just to post on Y!A. I'm sure you know what happens when you use altavista.babelfish.com, things just get lost in translation. I have no idea why anyone would do this.

It drives me crazy, too. I compulsively proof everything I read.

It's probably because English isn't their first language.
Or they are just plain stupid and hopeless.

And it's not slang instead of proper English either, honey. Slang is something totally different than the grammar and spelling mistakes that I've seen so much of on here.

I hear what your saying, BUT, why make such a big issue of it? The ones that get me going more than anything are the perverts who keep asking question about incest or questions going into pedophilia. But if the question is not a reportable one then don't go into it. Move on to another question you could answer without getting so worked up.

WWW= WORLD WIDE WEB, not ever one speaks English as a first language. Some might be very young.
Instead of complaining, do something about it. Try volunteering at a local school as a mentor. Go by the local library, read to some young kids,
Either you are part of the solution, or part of the problem

No Child Left Behind was a huge success! Now online questioners can construct sentences at the same literacy level as George W. Bush! Just kidding (not really kidding though). I have also wondered what's up with people on here pretending that they write broken English. Why do they do it? For the ambuguity? To be cute? To make foreigners look stupid? I dunno.

because people are either not native English speakers or they were educated in our great public school systems. some of it is on purpose, other times it is because this site attracts really ignorant people and other times it is that the public, by and large, is full of idiots. he meant no rich, white child left behind unless they want to be or their parents really don't care.

Is the wording of your question a deliberately ironic example of a badly worded question, or are you the pot calling the kettle black? I suspect most people are careless about the way they write (and can't be bothered to use a spell checker), although I do understand that plenty of NESB people use this site.

Try reading "~Desiderata" and remember that sometimes it is the content not the presentation which is important in a question. The same applies to the answer. I do like good grammar, don't misunderstand me, but get your priorities right!
