'Tis considered rude & inconsiderate to express affection in public. It's a faux pas.
Vietnam is still a very culturally old-fashioned society, despite being influent by the French for a century & the Americans for decades.
I went out with my wife (then girlfriend) in Vietnam, never once dared I kiss her in public. Even now, as husband & wife, whenever we go back there, we still keep our fondness for each other discreetly. Couples holding hands is rather acceptable.
It's sad that, usually, the man gets away with publicly being affectionate to his woman; the woman, however, often faces being judgemental & ridicule ?!?!

this doesn't address oyur question but I figured I'd add this in. In Vietnam's neighboring country Cambodia, I made good friends with my drivers. They all told me about how it was pretty rare for them to kiss. They'd kiss their girlfriends but they said it was always a closed mouth kiss. None of them had ever french kissed before and they all asked what it was like. They said the only women that french kissed were the one's you paid.
Granted that was Cambodia and not Vietnam so it's totally different... though I do remember that one of my vietnamese ex's seemed not to like to french kiss much.... guess that doesn't mean anything though because I had another one that did if I remember correctly.

Anyway, hope you get the answer you want to your Q. :-)

Wait... I just remebered after reading what the guy above me said.... in Cambodia they most sniffed cheeks or whatever.
you should give him the 10pts, I figured vietnam wouldnt be far of from Cambodia, so I can back him up, it's the same there

As a baby in straight forward and center college distinctive my friends were Vietnamese and Cambodian. i understand that many of their mothers and fathers got here to the US as refugees and did not talk the language. My friends were very very studious. Their mothers and fathers were frequently very strict with the girls -no boyfriends, staying out, etc (like my mothers and fathers). We were given alongside properly and not argued. a number of them had secret marriages and then got here again to varsity or left presently after (intense college). relations replaced right into a huge deal and consisted of distinctive . In proper this second's international i do no longer listen your voice frequently in the political area. I see the chinese language, jap and Korean communities voicing their subject matters yet no longer a lot between the Vietnamese and Cambodian. this can merely be my idea. now and again I communicate at length to the guy that does my nails (Vietnamese also, about early 40s). he's married with little ones, and he presented his mom to the states. He has no interest in returning to Vietnam. On his holidays he travels to the Caribbean. the different females bypass domicile for a month at time, each and each year. How do maximum Vietnamese sense about going domicile? i understand of a few those who rejoice with journeys to Vietnam. they are putting forward the actually everyone appears very pleasant, issues are low-cost, the seafood can not be beat, and at the same time as you're at it you may have an quite wonderful in wonderful condition tailor made for you.

Well, I am not vietnamese, but have dated a few Viet girlfriends in Vietnam and the answer is NO, they are not big kissers. They will kiss western style, but mostly a vietnamese kiss is this: They sort of sniff your cheek area.. I like it just the same

Older people do kiss but they dont in public, they do it discreetly. You can see young couples hold hands in public though, its acceptable. And every once in a while you'll see them kiss on the cheek or do the eskimo kisses but not French ones, again they dont do it in public. Well I dont think its sad tho cos its like a culture thing.

People in Vietnam seldom kiss in public. But they do kiss in privacy. Haha,,, I've never done that, honestly even now I'm 19.
That's not because my viewpoint but coz others' affect mine ...
That's not bad... just a difference in culture... like the Korean, Chinese, Japanese...

where do you think all those viet namese babies come from?? lol.....
.....its rare to see older married vn holding hands kissing or showing signs of affection in public.its hard to get them to stand real close to each other for a photo. the younger vn [ in teens & early 20's] can be seen cudling all the time esspecially in the parks or "lovers lane" in the evening . where they will sit up on their motor bikes and cling to eachother... only on occation will you see them kiss [on the lips] in the traditional western way ... never did a catch a viet namesse cpl "making out "in public... you often see babies and children being kissed in a traditional viet namese way , which is "sniffing " the cheek of another with your nose [eskimo kisses].. its something a lot of "G.I.'s brought back w/ them to share with their families after the war...." hon mot cai"
