It all depends on your personal preferences, and on how much money there is to spend...
If money is not an object, I would have to say southern California, the weather is always 70-80 degrees and there is no humidity, and very little rain. Basically, the perfect climate for humans.
If you want to try a place that is a little bit cheaper, but a little hotter, then Arizona is great. The scenery is amazing, the only cons are it gets very hot (but no humidity) and it is rather expensive, but nowhere near the prices of southern Cali.
However, if you want to be in the "hot spot" of the US, and Heat does not bother you, Miami, is awesome. There is a great Latin vibe there and you'll be running into celebrities every night on South Beach, Bayside, and Coconut Grove. Miami is a great city, but there is humidity, and hurricanes.
If having something different to do every night and a wide range of cuisine at your fingertips is important, then the 26 square miles of Manhattan, New York, is where it's at. Manhattan has everything you could ever think of, and you will never get bored. However, it is very expensive, and crowded, which some people actually like.
If a sophisticated atmosphere is what you like, then there is no place like Boston Mass. The conversations that you strike up are amazing, and it seems that everyone has enlightening things to say. Boston also has great food, and a decent nightlife. Boston, though, is very cold in the winter, and it is not cheap.
If the great outdoors is what ye seeks, then I recommend the outskirts of Salt Lake City, Utah. This area has the lowest crime of any major metropolitan area in the US. There are mountains everywhere and plenty of open land to, I dont know, ranch, if thats your thing. The only con I can see is that the people have a small town mentality, and are not very progressive in their thinking. So if you're gay...I wouldnt go there.
But...If you are gay, then I have the perfect place for you. The suburbs of San Francisco, CA. It is the most expensive real estate in the country, though, and there are a lot of transients in the city proper.
For southern comfort, I would go with eiither Hilton Head, SC (expensive), or Savannah, GA (very country). I enjoyed both of these places thoroughly, even though I despise grits and chitlins. I felt like I was in Gone With the Wind or something.
Personally though, I live in Daytona Beach, FL. Worlds most famous beach..perhaps, but unjustly so. Dont come here unless you like being bored 90% of the time. And for the record, I HATED Atlanta, Wisconsin, and Denver!
Taking everything into consideration, with the salary I have, I would like to move to Boston. I felt like it was the right match for me. I loved everything about it, but then, I love the cold.
Then again, I'd also want to live in, Anchorage, Honolulu, Miami, Utah, Manhattan..............

OMG New York!!!! It's really expensive though-expect to pay at least $2,000/month rent. If you're looking for something cheaper, they may have a nice shoe box available. :P If you have the money I would highly recommend visiting and seeing what it's like. Some people think it's congested with all the people and traffic but most people love New York. There's so much to do and it snows there which I LOVE. It's my dream to live there. I love cold weather too. Aspen, Colorado and Colorado in general is gorgeous. So pretty. Not as exciting and busy as New York but there's so much scenery. There's cold and snow there too. If you want sub zero temperatures and snow, Alaska's for you, buddy. One of the only places at gets all four seasons is the midwest, also known as the heartland-like Chicago. They get hot and cold and the happy medium. :) *EDIT*: By the way, the United States is amazing. People are usually friendly and it's a big place to there's a lot of room to travel. I love it here, and I'm sure you'll love it too.

Well it really does depend on what you mean by "best". What is that you are looking for? There are sooo many different types of places to live in the US. I live in the midwest and I think it's great. It's very relaxed and most people don't get caught up "the rat race" if you know what I mean. But maybe that is your sort of thing? Some people like a fast-paced lifestyle in the city and others would like a different pace living in the country. I think one of the best things about the US is that you have the option to live a quiet lifestyle in the country and you don't have to be well-off to do it (as oppsed to smaller countries where you pay a premium to do so).

It is all a matter of what is important to you. I like open spaces and mountins and hate crowds and hot weather, so of all the places I've lived Alaska was the best. Wyoming was great also. But others like busy places, city life, and 95 degree weather, so places like Miami Florida or El Paso Texas are heaven to them.
There's something for almost everybody's taste here.

Washington State. Why? Clean air, clean water, out of city limits in 15 min no matter where you live. On puget sound, see the ocean everyday. Skiing less than 45 min away, best jobs out there are in WA state! Best colleges where? In WA state. Home of the Organic society. Home of the best coffee on earth. Best place to raise kids. I could go on, but I won't! =o)

I've lived a few places. Coolest people to strangers award goes to Texas. Best friends after they get to know you goes to Utah.
As far as geography, everybody knows. Pacific Northwest is rainy. Colorado has warm summers and cold winters. Hot and humid but beautiful is Florida.
It all depends on what you want. If you think you want to get away, you'll go somewhere jammed with other people who want to get away, You won't get away from anything. Try Montana or Wyoming. Research first. All factors considered, I'd say Utah.

I wish I could say where I live, Mississippi, but that would be a lie. So, I will say...Point of Rocks, Wyoming. Why? I visited there once and it is absolutely the most beautiful place in the U.S., but then again, I don't get out much so maybe not. Don't take my advice!

North Carolina--the people are great, the weather is not too hot or cold, but you still get the seasons (I greatly missed seasons when I lived in Florida). The south has so much to offer. And the beach!!!!
