From a Christian point of view being saved means getting saved through Jesus Christ by accepting his sacrifice for mankind to compensate for the "original sin" of Adam eating from the Tree of Knowledge. This "original sin" caused Adam, and thus ourselves to be sent to the Earth to begin our journey back to Paradise, or the State of Peace, where OBEDIENCE of the LORD is everywhere, voluntarily as well as involuntarily. We humans are the only voluntary actors of good. The sun and moon involuntarily obey the laws of the Almighty, the animal & plant world obeys him involuntarily as well.
From a Muslim perspective, the concept of the Original Sin itself is misunderstood and misconstrued. In our belief the door or opportunity for sin opened only when FREE WILL was given to Adam. Before FREE WILL was given there was no place for sin. Similarly before the Lord commanded to do or not do something, there was no sin either. Original sin thus is a matter of simple disobedience, for which there are consequences. But there is no cure-all for all sorts of disobedience, except in the form of forgiveness and mercy from the LORD MOST HIGH.
If a child goes on a terrace and the parents tell the child to be careful around the roof parapet, and not climb it, but the child disobeys and falls and breaks the bones, then there has to be a correction to this problem through medical means. Every action has consequences and there are always solutions that can correct the problem except for Capital sins. Capital sins are those wrongs which can not be corrected in the physical World, and whose consequences can last way longer than the initial action. The correction for sins, (any sin) from a Christian perspective is simply to believe in the sacrfice of Christ, whereas from a Muslim or Jewish perspective the issue is more complex and involves paying compensation for the wrong done and replenish if something is taken AND ask the Lord for forgiveness and mercy for the disobedience.
Sins thus are committed in the material world, but have an impact on the metaphysical World as well. Taking from others unjustly or destroying things or worse lives has deep and long lasting consequences. We must make up for our wrong doing in all these realms.
We can ask for Mercy and the Lord will not turn us down, plus we have to do our best to make the corrections in the Physical world as well, to the extent possible and ask the Lord to do the rest for us.
At least that is what I consider being saved. Many Christians also misunderstand the word sacrifice. Animals were sacrificed by the Jewish folks at the temple for their sin so that they would realize that an animal will pay a price for their wrong doing. Those who had a compassionate heart may see that as the infliction of suffering on a lamb and avoid doing wrongs.
Also, in a society where animals were the sign of wealth of a person and also the means of survival or sustenance in the deserts, were really a part of the life of the society. Thus sacrificing from the bounties of the Lord was to acknowledge the Supremacy of the Lord and announcing dependence on the Lord. The pagans used to sacrifice animals to save themselves so that the animals may be the scape goat for their own well being. This concept was present in the Jewish religion of the ancient past too, but with a twist. TRUST in the MOST HIGH was shown by sacrificing the animals. Not the weak or the diseased ones but healthy males, which could sire many more healthy animals.
Thus being saved means doing what you can to correct the wrongs done by you and if you are unable or incapable of correcting the wrong, ask the MOST HIGH to do it on your behalf with a sincere and repentant heart. The LORD CAN DO EVERYTHING within the Limits of the Laws that He Almighty has assigned for all situations.
I hope this makes sense.

To most Christians it means you let Jesus into your heart and then you can do anything you want and not expect God's wrath. What the Bible really teaches is that one who is saved comes into a special relationship with God and can expect salvation provided he remains obedient to God (Matthew 24:13)
