If you know that your due date for an oil change is up, then you probably maintain your vehicle quite well. You're well in the ballpark if you change it within 500 miles or so of your scheduled date.

it depends on how dirty the oil is, if the oil is breaking down, and ultimately, is the oil still lubricating the engine properly.
I don't know of a way to judge if the oil is ABOUT to fail to lubricate.
The car probably won't explode , but you could ruin the engine. that is an expensive repair. Depending on where you were ( like a long trip ) that could be very inconvenient. And if the engine failed at a high speed, you might not be able to control the car. that would be dangerous for you, your passengers, and other drivers.

No. By the time you get around to changing the oil, it's pretty much past its sell-by date and needs to be drained out. The 3000 or 7000 mile change interval is about the time it takes for the beneficial compounds in the oil to break down and be of no further use. (Try synthetic oil next time if your car is new enough; it lasts longer.)

depends on how the the vehicle was driven, what kind of oil and filter was used and how many miles are on the vehicle. you can drive beyond the change point but remember that your oil usally starts to break down at the change point. On your next service you either slick 50 or lucas oil treatment that will help your vehicles parts remain lubricated longer.

kids don't do this at home! but i have put 30,000 miles on oil before on a 1997 Chevy z 71 i bought it new it was used for a test we were doing to check viscosity breakdown of oil we used Pennzoil 10w-30 we only changed the filter every 3,500 miles and when it was tested at 30,000 miles it had little wear to bearings of motor the only oil that was added was to fill the filter at filter change the truck was driven hard and worked hard when the motor was took apart there was little bearing wear and all internal components were within acceptable wear range for mileage. like i said i don't recommend anyone to do this this test was done in a controlled environment and will void any factory warranty!

yes,for a short while it should be ok.oil lubricates the moving parts, they would rub together heating with friction till they get so hot they actually melt and end up sticking together so they cant move anymore destroying the engine,in a way the oil is the most important part so dont do it for long,in a spot any oil is better than non at all.x

Deffinately not, whether you are at the milage or the date, whichever occurs first. Stay on top of that stuff. The oil is still breaking down and thus affecting our environment.

No. Every 3,000 miles it needs to be changed. It would wreck your engine.
