The best way to address a phobia, particularly one that is interfering with your ability to reach your goals, is to seek counseling and/or medication. Honestly, for a specific phobia, the best and most recommended treatment is either behavioral therapy or cognitive-behavioral therapy that includes exposure to the feared stimulus. Research suggests that exposure is the most important component of therapy for addressing specific fears.

The thought of being exposed to something you fear can definitely be quite overwhelming and anxiety-provoking. However, many therapists use a technique called systematic desensitization which may seem less scary to you. In this technique, the therapist works with you to come up with a list of things that you fear doing - e.g. seeing a dead person on TV, driving by a graveyard, going to a funeral, etc. You then start with the thing that you fear least on the list and practice exposing yourself to that thing. Once you can tolerate that thing, you progress to things that cause more and more fear. It's also helpful to work with the therapist to develop strategies to use to manage your anxiety in those feared situations - stuff like coping statements to say to yourself or relaxation techniques.

Overall, I think it is also very important to find a therapist who you can trust and feel comfortable around - that can help give you extra security that you're not going to be asked to do things that are too much for you to handle. Good luck!

I am surprised you went into the medical field knowing you have this phobia. I would try a counselor who deals with phobias and see if that helps. They may use a desensitization method, or give you anti-anxiety medication to help. Good Luck :)

hm....i dont think theres really a way to get over it without exposing yourself to it....
Depends on how severe it is. i'd start out light by watching monster movies, then call your local funeral home, and explain to them your situation, i'm sure they'd be willing to help you out, i know id be embarassed if when i got into med school and had to dissect a human body and was terrified of it....there might be other ways (hypnosis perhaps?) but im not sure how well they'd work. i think this way would be the best route...
