i was unable then to log in as administrator and had to reload everything. now my macfee does not load properly and yes i now have active x installed. can anyone help me and my computer?

First , get rid of McAfee. It hogs system resources. Remove Active X for now. Get AVG Anti-virus, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, and Spy-bot Search and Destroy. Update them and Windows XP often and run them faithfully. All of these are free programs, and do a good job. Do a "repair" using your Windows XP installation CD. Boot to the CD and select "r". Follow the instructions and it will repair any corrupt O.S. files and not harm your data or programs. In "control panel", select User Accounts and change the settings to your preferences.

Data if intact is alway recoverable. Just go surfing, download and install a Data Recovery Software. Files can still be found even after the hdd is formatted.

Only when u use a Data Eraser program will your DATA be lost forever.
