The name Lead Zeppelin had been suggested by Keith Moon when Page was considering forming a supergroup with the drummer.

Keith Moon himself got the phrase from John Entwistle's term for a bad gig, describing it as "going over" (some sources say "going down") "like a lead zeppelin". The group adopted the name, deliberately dropping the 'a' in Lead to prevent people from pronouncing it as "leed".

zeppelins were a name Germans gave blimps, and a led zeppelin wouldn't fly but it would be hard and shaped like a ? I got this guess from one of their album covers, Ive been a led zeppelin fan for say 37 years (and I wasn't a baby when I first started either).

My opinion probable will be quite biased thinking i have not heard a lot of Deep red beside street celeb and (obviously) Smoke on the Water. in my opinion i love Robert Plant's voice it has a Bluesy sound to it you may listen all of those thoughts at the same time as he sings yet whats up actually everyone has their personal opinion.

I believe it was because people told the founding members of the band that their music would be unpopular and that, ergo, they would fall like a lead zepplin. They played with the spelling and viola!

it came from a blimp, and i believe the term came from a blimp crashing...they refered it to a bad gig (going down like a led zepplin)

All my sources and I have to strongly agree with Spongebob on the naming of the group.
www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zepplin#Trivia is a good source for this question.
