I had beautiful expensive white towels that I had managed to keep snowy white for years. I have always washed with Tide Powder with Bleach. I bought a cheap package of white and tan dish towels at Wal Mart and made the mistake of tossing them in with my beautiful white towels. The towels came out off white. I wasn't too concerned as I can clean anything. I bought some liquid bleach and soaked overnight. Didn't do a thing! I don't get it as I have even washed my pale yellow towels with my white ones and the white ones stay snowy white. It was these three new tan dish towels. How do I remove this color transfer and get white towels back?

Look in the dye section of your local department store (with yarns and stuff). Get a white or colour remover and try that.

I would bleach more or dye them white. They probably turned tan because the towels at Wal-Mart are cheap. Also, many fabrics must be washed once before using or washing with other things because they will bleed the first time they are in the washer.

If Bleach will not remove the dye, probably best to forget it, enjoy the tan towels.

I suggest using oxyclean , let them soak for a bit, you should notice a difference, if that is not satisfactory, they make powder dyes that will make them look like new.
